In the beginning…
While it was something we had in mind for a long time already, it’s now been about 5 years since VERZ Online kicked off, during late 2018 / early 2019 if memory serves us well. Unsuccessfully may we add because we got stuck pretty quickly during coding 🥵 (on the navigation screen if you must know).
It wasn’t until we came together as a team that things truly started happening. By the end of 2021 there were a few of us committed to the project, including developers, designers, game mechanics specialists, etc. While the team has seen changes over the years (you know, life takes over sometimes…), a handful of us have always stuck together, meeting online every weekend, adapting to a new technology stack, taking up different roles, solving countless problems… It’s definitely been an adventure getting to this point! 😘
Open Alpha
And that brings us to today… We have a (new) prototype map to test on, buildings can be constructed and upgraded, tiles generate resources which can be harvested, trade works in its rudimentary form, credits can be earned, etc.
We have a million things left to do. How do we best implement combat? (it’s been an ongoing topic for about a year now) What community features do we include? We currently use Discord, but what about an in-game chat, or forum? What about the many NPCs we designed but haven’t added to the new test map yet? How about the wormholes which we removed recently, and so on… the list is long! 🥵
We’ve been lucky to find our first open alpha testers for the next phase of development – testing of the game’s core features, as we keep building of course! Thank you in advance to balmz, Mighty Stephan and Aleccia Rosewater for your time! It’s going to be a new experience for all of us. 😘
