Happy winter holidays to all! 2025 has been quite the year, but we’ll maybe save the lookback for another post. This time we want to talk about…
Faction Reputation
A big milestone we’ve reached this month is implementing the first version of our reputation system.
What we’ve implemented.
There are several factions in the VERZ universe. VERZ factions are little more of a loose construct than in other games, and thus we’ll have more than the “big” factions. Players can earn or lose reputation with these factions through several means, including (but not limited to) completing missions and taking hostile action against members of a given faction. Players can track their reputation with a given faction under the “Standings” view in the Roster.

Let’s break down what’s pictured here. First, you’ll see only two factions. Reputation progress is hidden until you “discover” that faction. Generally but not always, this means your first positive or negative interaction with them. Second, you’ll notice the “Pirate” faction is not one of our main factions that is vying for interest in the universe. NPC’s often belong to their own factions and have their own plans with players whom they despise or hold in regard. Finally, you’ll notice that there’s currently progress bars and corresponding titles. Reaching certain reputation thresholds comes with its own sets of perks or penalties for you to uncover.
It’s also worth mentioning that this Reputation system is only one of several standings mechanisms we have planned.
Tutorial
It’s a small thing, but we’ve built out a tutorial covering the majority of Alpha functionality. This presents as a small message bar above the nav map. It helps first time spacefarers identify what’s at hand and start moving around. The tutorial can also be reset through the Account screen.
